Junior Mens Asia Cup Hockey: India won the title for the fourth time by defeating Pakistan, also qualified for the World Cup

The Indian junior hockey team continued their dominance to win their fourth Asia Cup title by defeating rivals Pakistan 2-1. Angad Bir Singh goal in the 13th minute, Arijit Singh goal in the 20th minute. Abdul Basharat the lone goal for Pakistan in the 37th minute. The Indian team, which has performed unbeaten in this tournament, has also qualified for the International Hockey Federation (FIH) Men’s Junior World Cup to be held in Malaysia.

Earlier, India had won the Junior Asia Cup Hockey title in 2004, 2008 and 2015. Pakistan has won this tournament three times (1987, 1992 and 1996). Angadbir the first goal by reaching the goalpost on Arijit’s shot. Arijit had made the lead 2-0. After the interval, Pakistan got success in scoring a goal. In the final quarter, Pakistan tried hard to equalize but the Indian defense stood firm. Indian captain Uttam Singh was adjudged man of the match.

Captain Uttam Singh said that the match against Pakistan in the league match was a draw. Was careful this time. The team had never played a match in front of so many spectators. Scoring early on was beneficial. For this, the Executive Board of Hockey India has announced Rs 2 lakh each to the players of the team and Rs 1 lakh each to the support staff.
