The auction of Lionel Messi’s World Cup shirts might bring in a record-breaking $10 million

Six jerseys that Lionel Messi wore during Argentina’s championship run at the soccer World Cup in Qatar last year are scheduled to be up for auction by Sotheby’s, who believes they have the potential to fetch more than $10 million, making them the most costly collection of sports memorabilia ever auctioned.

Six of the seven first-half jerseys the Argentina captain wore in Qatar, including the one he wore in the thrilling victory against France in the final, will be up for auction in New York, the auction house said on Monday. At the conclusion of every game, he often switches his jersey with a member from the other team, making him the most sought-after player in the league.<img decoding=”async” class=”alignnone wp-image-284571″ src=”–750×422.jpg” alt=” ankita lokhande is receiving backlash on bigg boss 17 for cashing in on the death” width=”1557″ height=”876″ title=”The auction of Lionel Messi's World Cup shirts might bring in a record-breaking $10 million 6″ srcset=”–750×422.jpg 750w,–1024×576.jpg 1024w,–768×432.jpg 768w,–1536×864.jpg 1536w,–390×220.jpg 390w,–150×84.jpg 150w, 1600w” sizes=”(max-width: 1557px) 100vw, 1557px” />

Argentina won their third World Cup, beating France in a penalty shootout after a 3-3 tie at Lusail Stadium. Messi accounted for two of the nation’s goals.

Messi’s jerseys will go up for auction at Sotheby’s, a London-based auction house, from November 30 to December 14. During the bidding days, the shirts will be on display for the public to see at a free exhibition at the company’s New York offices.

The auction house has partnered with AC Momento, a U.S.-based computer business that helps prominent players manage their match-worn memorabilia.

The jersey Diego Maradona wore during Argentina’s historic quarterfinal 2-1 win over England in 1986 holds the record for a game-worn piece of soccer memorabilia. In that game, Maradona famously scored one goal with his hand, a goal he claimed was largely due to the “Hand of God.” In May 2022, it was sold for $9.3 million at Sotheby’s in London.

Messi’s victory and trophy lift at the World Cup last year was an emulation of Maradona’s 1986 victory, which marked Argentina’s second trophy win.

To help children with rare illnesses, Sant Joan de Déu Barcelona Children’s Hospital and the Leo Messi Foundation are leading the UNICAS Project. A percentage of the auction revenues will go toward this initiative.

Messi, 36, spent 17 years with Barcelona, winning the Spanish league and the European Champions League four times. He presently plays for Inter Miami in the Major League Soccer. He holds the record for most wins with eight Ballon d’Or victories, which are given to the best player in the game each year.

However, it was his late victory in Qatar that solidified his status as one of the greatest players of all time, alongside Pele and Maradona.

His clothes have a lot of potential value because of this.
