<p>According to reports, an internet scam resulted in the theft of Rs 11 lakh from the bank account of a 40-year-old Pune resident. <p>This example shows how prevalent these frauds are becoming in India. Similar schemes sometimes include con artists impersonating bank employees or other government representatives and contacting targets through phishing websites. Unfortunately, such strategies often succeed in exploiting unwary victims.</p>
<p>The lady in question, who is from Shivaji Nagar in Pune, Maharashtra, was seeking for her online bank statement in this specific instance. After failing to do so, she searched online for customer service numbers that may assist her. She had no idea that she would come across a phishing website with fake phone numbers. The scammers urged her to install remote access software when she phoned them, masquerading as bank representatives and allowing them access to her phone.</p>
<p>“She looked up the phone number for the hotline online and called it. The individual who answered the call offered to assist her and requested that she download remote access software, according to Inspector Ankush Chintaman of the Chatushrungi police, who was cited by TOI.</p>
<p>She ultimately followed the phony bank executives’ instructions to the letter: “The lady did the same and even supplied her bank account passwords. She was then told to attempt to get the bank account statement through the bank’s website, according to the scammers, Inspector Ankush Chintaman said.</p>
<p>Once they had access to her account, the scammers took Rs 11 lakh. The police have filed a FIR and are looking into the situation.</p>
<p>Don’t install foreign APKs or programs when someone asks you to, and never give out your OTPs to anybody, particularly if they pose as a bank official, to prevent being scammed. Additionally, it’s crucial to make sure that you just call reputable sources or send emails to them. Always verify a website’s legitimacy and ownership with the genuine organization it purports to represent.</p>
